New ICA classes in Madrid
It sounds funny saying it but I have never been to mainland Spain before. People are surprised when I say this especially as I grew up in the UK where Spain was the favored holiday destination of the Brits.
We are really pleased to announce the first ICA classes in Spain at a great location in Madrid called Fictizia
All classes for Kevin and myself will be conducted in English with Spanish translation where needed. We will have Colorist
Javier Guevara as our #2 colorist trainer, helper and translator. Javier is a fantastic DP and Colorist. He did the same for me in New Zealand last year, I say did the same but to be honest, we didn’t need much Spanish translation on that occasion:)
Fictizia is a certified training school, so they have a fantastic set up, so make an ideal base for the ICA in Spain.

Who are these classes aimed at?
RG180 ‘Intermediate Resolve Techniques’
This is a new class that bridges the gap between a beginner and advanced user. I found people who had taken an online tutorial or learnt via YouTube considered themselves to good for the RG101 and didn’t want to be embarrassed in the RG201 Advanced class so took neither class.
The RG180 is for you if you are about to start working with clients. You might have completed some projects, but have many questions on workflow and node structure. Remember you need to be totally confident with the software, before you can be confident dealing with clients.
Conforming from other software, nodes explained, grading RAW and LOG material and matching problem shots are just some of the many topics we cover in this class.
RG201 ‘Advanced Resolve Techniques’
This class is aimed at the current Resolve user who has been using the software on projects or somebody who has previously taken the RG101 or RG180. It is focused on giving you the little edge so you can get ahead of your competition., including the best practices for making money as a colorist.
Bringing problem footage to the class is encouraged, the students will evaluate and discuss the coloring options.
It covers amongst other topics, working in ACES or Resolve Color Managed, using OFX plugins, adding VFX/updating timelines and advanced finishing options.
RG301 ‘Warren’s Looks and Matching Masterclass’
This is my favourite class. I always say anybody can create a cool look but not everybody will be able to match it to the next clip!
We will work on 8 small sequences all from different genres/cameras/locations and all with their own challenges. The class will discuss as a group the various options of coloring the sequence. Time is then spent applying this look and matching it to the whole sequence. These are some of the timelines we will work on.
BMW commercial, that needs matching before deciding on a look.
Peaky Blinders period reconstruction. A great sequence for showcasing soft highlights or grainy high contrast print film looks.
House of Cards drama reconstruction. Great for showing multiple node trees.
A Music Video with various cut away shots
Battle war sequence is great for Day for Night, Bleach Bypass and Cross Process like the example belowLooks.
These classes will be conducted in English with Spanish translation when needed.
All ICA classes are certified with PDF documents and training media to take away with you.
