Beijing ICA Summer 2018
We have received lots of training enquiries from China during our nine years so it was great to finally run ICA classes in Beijing.
Where and When?
Color Palette and Fengtai Vocational school in Beijing from July 16 to 20, 2018.
The Color Palette is centrally located and very close to a train station. Both Kevin and myself were blown away by the standard of the facility. We had side by side training rooms, equipped with Mac Pros, and HDR/SDR monitors supplied by Canon and FSI.
Who was teaching?
Kevin and Warren
Which classes?
Based on pre-class discussions with the Color Palette we decided to run more advanced five day classes, different from our normal two and three day options. Kevin mixing theory with hands on, teaching HDR, ACES, Looks and Advanced Strategies. I taught what we nicknamed the “Complete Resolve Color Class”.
I really appreciated having five days to work with the same students. It gave me a chance to get familiar with their level and particular workflow needs. We mixed the new Resolve v15 features, technical color training, and Looks and Matching.
During the first four days, I gave the students a different 30 second challenge each day. They had 45 minutes to grade and match each sequence. Each timeline presented different challenges, including multiple cameras, shooting errors, and more. We then viewed their grades in the Color Palette DI theatre. It was a great experience for the students; it’s not easy watching your work on the big screen in front of me and fellow students.
Who attended?
Students from all over China. Mostly Colorists but we also had a sprinkling of post supervisors and film school teachers.
Will you be back?
Yes, the plan is for a multicity visit in 2019, so keep an eye out for details.
“I was really impressed with the standard of questions from the students and the quality of the Color Palette facility was exceptional. I would have no hesitation in coming back and partnering with these guys again, a great week.”
