‘These days’ by Martha Marlow
It was shot in one take using the EPIC. The hardest thing about grading a single 3 minute clip is that there are no cuts, no where to get the scissors in, no way to get my windows on and off.
The clip needed a balance and an overall look, but the devices that keep popping into view were quite often a different color temperature. The iPhones and iPads all had to be auto tracked and key-framed on and off the screen. This meant a total of 13 nodes which were all live. All the devices were graded in a Layer node, allowing me to reference the balanced grade.
Once everything was balanced I added a LOG grade on the last node to add a small hint of blue in the shadows to the whole picture.
I think it would have taken me around 5 hours, over 3 separate grading sessions to finish the clip
Thinking I might revisit the project soon, it’ll be interesting to see how Resolve 12 with it’s new tracker handles all the windows.
