This is a series of six (6) three-hour live online classes with opportunities for Q&A. Take individual classes or the whole season.
This series is ideal for directors, cinematographers, DITs, post supervisors, editors, VFX artists, conform artists, assistant colorists, colorists, and anyone interested in knowing more about the collaborative process between the cinematographer on-set and the colorist in the finishing suite.
We start with general principles of color science without getting too technical or theoretical. Learn what it takes to ensure optimal capture of the intended visual mood. We discuss the psychology of seeing and the language of color. Production is the main focus of the later classes and we cover how camera settings affect the image.
We then explore how colorists and cinematographers tackle look management with color science, LUTs, and CDLs and the importance of consistency.
By the end of the series, participants will understand the factors that need to be agreed upon and documented to achieve the director’s vision, enabling editors and VFX artists to monitor images consistent with the intended look and ensure they meet delivery requirements.
Students that take at the complete series of six classes receive an ICA certificate.
Each class will be recorded and made available to participants and to those who could not attend the live session.
