I am at the SMPTE trade show in Sydney Australia. This has to be the best trade show venue in the world. Two minutes from the hotel, and just minutes from beautiful views of Darling harbour and a cold beer after the show. Then again I am a little biased! This show is every 2 years and judging by the first couple of days attendance numbers are good although manufacturers are down.
Digital Vision have a Film Master here showing r3d and Avid integration. Sony has an Autodesk Lustre on their stand previewing DI workflows with a Sony F35 digital camera. Da Vinci are not at this show but do have a machine for demos off-site. The new Impresario control panels are now shipping with all Resolve systems.
I attended a great presentation from Cedric Lejeune of Workflowers, he is trying to de mystify LUTs for the “normal” man. Judging by the response from the “normal” audience at the end of his presentation he is doing a good job.
For the first time at SMPTE since I can remember we have no Telecine machines or Scanners; not really a reflection on the downturn in film acquisition, more the logistics of getting a machine down-under and the GFC.
