RG 101: Learning to Grade With Resolve
Two Day Course with Warren Eagles

‘The ultimate color resolve class. Start color correction the right way.’
This class is an excellent introduction to coloring with Davinci Resolve. It is ideal for first time users and you do not need any experience to attend. It is important when learning any software to learn the correct way, that will then form a great foundation going forward. Class size is normally capped at ten students. Each student gets to work at their own workstation.
The class mixes the operational side of Resolve with real world workflows and problems. The aim is to get you to a standard where you can color a real job. It is run at a relaxed pace, questions are encouraged and group participation is a key part of the course. This class is ideal for editors, DITs, DPs, and Photographers, basically anybody with a desire to learn more about color correction.
You Will Learn
- How to load the Resolve software and get started.
- Complete overview of the software.
- Basic editing and how to build a timeline.
- Primary correction.
- Secondary correction.
- What are waveforms scopes and how do they help?
- Using an XML to bring in a timeline from Premiere or FCP.

You’ll learn the key basics of color and reinforce those techniques in Resolve. After this class, you’ll be prepared to step into other Resolve classes. This is a hands-on operational masterclass for working colorists and freelancers. The goal is to achieve new looks from old techniques.We look at grading styles and looks that are frequently requested and discuss how to achieve them, along with the cultural meanings or concepts they impart to a project. This course is an ideal follow up to Colorist Strategies or other intermediate classes but is open to any colorist with hands on experience. The class is valid for all grading systems.
The workshop begins with a presentation of standard looks from a historical perspective. It then quickly moves into practical examples and experiments. Are you already using Resolve and starting to work with clients? If so, this is the class for you! Grading LOG/RAW from a variety of different cameras. Basic color theory, conforming, and all nodes explained. It is ideal for current Resolve users or students who have taken our RG101 course, have taken an online introduction class, or are self-taught. It will give you the confidence to take your grading to the next level.
We cover intermediate techniques using the latest Resolve software that focuses on colorists who are starting to work with clients for the first time. RG180 also looks at 8-bit versus 10-bit, 422 versus 444, color space, macro blocking, and general problems that occur during a session.

CT 301 Color Design Masterclass

This is a practical masterclass aimed at anyone involved in designing the look and style of a project. We look at color harmonies and balance and then apply the ideas to color grading. We focus on the principal elements of an image that clients of commercials, television and feature films all relate to; techniques cover skin, sky, products, mood and time of day as well as topics raised by the attendees. The goal is to manage these elements effectively and efficiently whilst maintaining the integrity of the project concepts and a color schema. This course is an ideal follow up to CT102: Colorist Strategies and CT201: Advanced Looks and Matching, but the class open to anyone with competent grading skills.
The workshop begins with a presentation of color harmonies and analysis. It then quickly moves into practical examples and experiments. 2019 Colorist Mixer — Saturday October 12

The Mixer moves to Hawaii! We’ve run these at NAB, ICB and also in Taipei and at our 2017 Summit in Bali.
